We appreciate your business and strive to make the quilting results the best possible. To ensure these results, the following steps are required:
Preparing your Quilt Top for Machine Quilting:
Make sure your quilt top is well pressed and seams are flattened.
Seams should be pressed flat, not pressed open when possible.
Trim all hanging/stray threads, especially those that might show through light colored fabrics.
Stay-stitch 1/8" outside edge if there are no borders or if the borders are pieced as the stitching can pull apart on the machine frame. Make sure you've back stitched to secure the last border.
Quilts should be within a 1/2 inch square. Out of shape quilts may result in tucks and/or waves and/or an irregular finished shape.
Preparing the Backing & Batting:
Make backing and batting 4" larger than the quilt top on all 4 sides.
Please remove selvage edges from the backing completely before piecing. If they are not removed, it can cause puckering & pleating.
If you must piece your backing, please use a half inch seam allowance and press the seam open.
Square up your backing.
Do not baste, pin, or spray your quilt top together.
*Completed quilts will not be trimmed unless requested on your intake form.
Note: Quilts will be quilted in the condition they are received. Quilting does not correct piecing imperfections. If the quilt top is not square, has fullness through the center, or has wavy borders...you may have pleats or tucks quilted in the finished product. We will do our best to correct such problems as we quilt, but we can't guarantee that we can work out all problems. The only way to absolutely prevent puckers or pleats is to correct the piecing problem prior to bringing the quilt top in for longarm quilting and to properly apply your borders ie...don't just sew and hack off the end of your borders. Bulky seams can and may cause needle breakage. If the quilt is damaged because of bulky seams or improper construction...The Quilt Parlor is not responsible.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in additional charges and will be assessed at a rate of $30 per hour. This includes, but is not limited to: trimming threads, pressing quilt top, squaring backing, stay-stitching the edging, etc.
